The area Helgelandskysten is known for its spectacular sea kayaking! Our own typical tour looks like this: Paddle from Beverlys Hill to Horn and take the ferry to Vega. From the ferry quay at Vega you paddle through islands, inlets and sounds to Hongset – Guristraumen. Depending on the weather it is anywhere from 3-5 hours paddling. Guristraumen is a “river” between the sea and a lake where the high/low tide acts as a river. There is a very nice place to camp right there! Next day we paddle north between islands and skerries and pass some open water on our way to wards Brasøyene. Here you can camp on any site you pass and adjust the day’s trip to what you feel like. Next day you can spend paddling between Husværøyan – a maze of islands and sounds – lots of eagles and other animal life. Next day we paddle to Hærøy and out towards Dønnna. Here there is a very large camp site at Solfellsjøen where we camp. This is also the start of a hiking trip up to the top of Dønnamannen – the highest peak along the way. All while we are paddling along here we see the spectacular Syv Søstre and Lovund and sometimes Træna out in the ocean. From here we can keep paddeling north or start back again. If you do not want to paddle all the way back you can always take the “hurtigbåt” back to Vega – or paddle in to Tjøtta and take the car ferry back to Horn.
